Webmaster Note:
We have redesigned the Wrestling web page. Take a look. Thanks to Jay Montano and the cooperation of the wrestling team.

Over the next weeks we will use a similar format for each sport, adding as much information, on each, as we are able to obtain. If you are playing a sport, please help us by emailing information for your sport. If you are a fan and able, please do the same.
We are proud of our Titans, win or lose and they deserve recognition for their efforts and their school pride.

A little Straight Talk About Titan Athletics
This weeks Straight Talk seeks to find out what has happened to Titan Pride. If the Internet was available back in the early 60's, Titans would be falling over themselves to post scores, talk about wins... and losses, and praise athlete's weekly accomplishments. Over the years, enthusiasm at Pioneer seems to swing up and down depending on team success. What's up with that? Why don't we find Titans writing in High School Blogs? No time? No School Pride? MYSPACE is more interesting?

There are a few Titans who stop by this website and Blog periodically. Even one or two who drop a note now and then. But there is no where near the enthusiasm and school pride that was the norm years ago. Pioneer rarely stands out in area sports. Oh... now and then a good team comes along, but mostly we see Santa Fe, La Serna, CalHi, and sometimes Whittier and El Rancho competing for championships and getting the publicity. Whether they are winning or losing we also see those teams cheering and raving about their teams. Students and parents get on the blogs. Booster Clubs get involved. They are in the news and on the Internet regularly. There can be no doubt that their enthusiam contribute to their teams successes.

This doesn't happen at Pioneer. One has to wonder why. It's certainly not for lack of good athletes. Personally I believe it's an attitude problem that takes in the Faculty, Student Body, and parents. A lack of dedication and participation. No? Why were there only three girls running Cross Country? Did large numbers of students go out to see Gabriela Cruz's races? I'll bet there weren't a half dozen who went to see her run at Mt Sac CIF prelims. How many watched the Girls Soccer team beat St Paul? How many students, teachers, and parents will go to see the Wrestling team compete at the Cerritos Tourney?

When will Pioneer students begin to totally participate in and enjoy the few years they have in the high school experience?

School Pride starts with participation... on and off the field of play. It continues by shouting out support, win or lose and shouting it loudly.

Will Pioneer ever stand up to the challenge?

This website, and others, give Titans the opportunity to voice their school pride and support. At the very least one could (and should) expect student to report all scores of all contest and keep the Student Body and Alumni informed. It doesn't take alot of effort. All it takes is a little school pride. Booster clubs should be leading the way. Blogs and websites are a way to "BOOST" your teams and it's free.

For those who may bring it up... this goes beyond just sports. There is little to no news being spread about Titan Tones, CSF, school plays..., and all the other activities that deserve to be shouted from the mountain top. What's up, Titans?
